WHY TOUGH CUT?

Growing up, getting my skates sharpened was a ritual. I only trusted one guy at one shop, because that perfect sharpening gave me confidence. Years later, my dad confessed that even after I moved away to play, he'd still stop by that shop just to chat with the gentleman who used to sharpen my skates. It was his way of staying connected to the game, and to me.

The hockey world is small, and the bonds we form in it run deep. Over the past eight years of coaching in Nashville, I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of incredible kids and families. Tough Cut is about keeping those relationships alive.

In this new capacity, beyond the skate sharpening, I hope I can offer players and their parents a neutral perspective and coach's insight. Vent to me about the BS, so I can assure you that none of it matters, just as long as a passion for the game still exists and growth and learning is still happening.

I've ended every season I've coached by telling my teams — the players and their parents — that they have me for as long as they need me.
